  • Michigan has automatic voter registration when applying for State Identification. Residents are automatically registered to vote unless they choose to opt out if they do not intend to vote.  Michigan also permits Voters not to show ID when voting?  Is there a plan to remove automatic registration remove no-ID voting if this bill passes?
  • Unfair Access to Benefits: There is a concern that unlaw immigrants may use a state-issued ID to access public benefits, potentially diverting resources away from U.S. citizens and legal residents who truly need them.

  • Inequity in License Revocation: In contrast to Americans who may face revocation of their driver’s licenses as a penalty for certain offenses, individuals who are in the country illegally do not face similar consequences, creating an imbalance in how laws are enforced.

  • Real ID Disparities: While U.S. citizens are required to comply with strict Real ID requirements by May 2025, including providing original documents like birth certificates and marriage licenses, illegal immigrants may be able to obtain a state ID without the same level of scrutiny or compliance with federal regulations.

  • Rising Insurance Costs: If individuals without legal status obtain driver’s licenses and are unable to afford car insurance, this could lead to higher rates for U.S. drivers, as the financial burden of uninsured drivers is often passed on to those with proper coverage.

This seeks to limit the choices available to women facing an unplanned pregnancy, making abortion appear as the only option. It also censors information by preventing ads for pregnancy resource centers from being shown to women within 1,850 feet of an abortion clinic, a measure that is overly broad and will affect surrounding areas, particularly in urban settings. Additionally, it involves the state government in an unethical effort to undermine Pregnancy Resource Centers, falsely accusing them of using “deceptive designs” simply because they offer life-affirming alternatives to women considering abortion.

Call your State Senator today.

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent of yours.

I am calling to ask you to vote NO on Senate Bill 1082.

This bills limit the options available to women facing an unplanned pregnancy, making abortion appear to be the only choice. They also censor vital information by blocking ads for pregnancy centers from reaching women within 1,850 feet of an abortion clinic. This broad restriction will negatively affect nearby facilities, particularly in urban areas.

Additionally, the bills impose burdensome “consent” requirements that hinder the timely sharing of pregnancy-related information for referrals to pregnancy help centers. Moreover, they empower the state government to unfairly target pregnancy resource centers, falsely accusing them of using “deceptive designs” simply because they provide life-affirming alternatives to abortion.

As your constituent, I urge you to vote NO on these extreme bills. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.
