Benson Fears Ballot Tracking! Imposes DATA EMBARGO on EI Researchers

Tomorrow, September 25th, District 9 of the Michigan GOP will officially launch its Ballot Tracking Team, utilizing Check My Vote’s robust election surveillance technology. This will allow election patriot volunteers statewide to track the numbers of absentee ballots to ensure they are being sent only to eligible voters.
Seemingly in response to our joint efforts, and on the eve of the all-important 2024 Election, Jocelyn Benson’s SOS office has announced a critical rule change in the data they will release to election integrity researchers under FOIA requests: instead of sending out data on ballot applications sent, and received, and actual ballots sent, and received, watchdog groups like CheckMyVote.org will now only receive data on ballots sent out to the voters.
It’s a drastic denial of transparency done for only one purpose: to degrade citizens’ ability to closely monitor the integrity of the election.
Daily figures revealing the number of ballots returned by voters is critical not only to Get out the Vote (GOTV) “ballot chase” activities but it’s also crucial for election integrity researchers, because it allows us to get a close to real time count of the total number of absentee ballots being returned to clerks by the voters so we can compare this figure with the number of ballots sent out to voters.
Now, under the new rules suddenly foisted on us, only one of the above data fields will be provided: date ballot sent (to the voter). We are also denied data on the numbers of ballot applications sent and received back. This is important, because, with one exception (permanent absentee voters), Michigan election law requires that all absentee ballots must be received pursuant to a ballot application from a voter.
District 9’s Election Integrity Chair, Phil O’Halloran, decried the last minute rules change:
“This is the digital equivalent of plastering pizza boxes on the windows at the TCF Center. What are you trying to hide, Jocelyn?”
District 9 Chair, Deb Ross, released this statement:
“now is the time for Michigan patriots to step up and secure our elections. Come to our ballot tracking presentation tomorrow night at Stevo’s in Imlay City [details below]. This is about preserving freedom for your children and grandchildren. They are counting on you to take action.”
